To the entire Scott family - I was sadden to learn of John's passing. As an agricultural educator there are those of us who remember John as the one with the camera constantly taking pictures and trying to help us younger teachers better understand what our profession was about and expectations.
To me this loss is not only a loss at the professional level but a personal one as well. I was one of those young FFA members from the neighboring FFA chapter (WSR) who experienced firsthand the outgoing personality of this larger that life man that demonstrated throughout his life that finding ways to involve every student in the educational process was as important as winning.
There were many times during my early teaching career that John served as a mentor and a friend. Even more important was the connection that I enjoyed with many of you as a family because of the Bremer County Fair, FFA and the agricultural education profession.
I wish the family peace and joy as John has gone to a better place. May God grant eternal rest unto him.

Mr. Scott, as our Voc. Ag. and FFA instructor at Plymouth H.S., was one of my favorite teachers. I know firsthand, that he set this smart aleck freshman straight, and taught me respect for my elders. Wish we could have had him at our 50th class reunion. He will be missed. Condolences to his family, may he rest in peace.

All of us at Plymouth High will remember John Scott with great respect. He had a style of teaching which made you feel he was like he was a loving father, not just a teacher. Always giving his students the practical sides of learning and life.
Thank you John for all you did for us. The Lord will join you with your wife and others who have departed before you.
Thanks be to God!

Dianne,
As you know your father has always been special to me. The successful impact he had on the lives of others is immeasurable; the memories are numerous. He not only touched lives; he touched hearts as well with his words of encouragement, his motivation, commitment to youth and family, and his humor. It was an honor to have him attend my President’s Reception when I was president of the ag teachers association. (a time he touched my heart) I am in Connecticut with my folks this week thus cannot make the trip to Sumner. You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers at your time of sorrow, remember he will live in us always.
Love,

My condolences to John's family. May each of you remember him as a great guy dedicated to his family, country and teaching profession. I was one of his freshmen students his first year at Sumner High in 1957. As many others have commented, he not only taught the topics of his courses, but also how to think about and live your life. Many of us will miss him but we will not forget him.

I would like to express my condolences to the family and add to the comments from other former students regarding John's contributions to agriculture and the community. It would be difficult to fully measure the positive impact John had on his students. He taught everything from welding to feed rations to Robert's Rules of Order. But more importantly, John taught us about life and the lessons he'd learned. His methods weren't always conventional, but they were effective and for that, I and many others will always be indebted to him.

Our sincere condolences to all of John's family. When we first met John was when we were trying to work with the FFA and agri-sci classes for S-F. He was a fun knowledgable man when it came to teaching kids about agric. and being involved in the community. He gave me good advice and we still have the S-F FFA Chapter going strong. I think he enjoyed reading in the paper about the activities the chapter does. I remember when he came with his cowboy hat to our dau. Gina's grad. party at the farm and presented her with the FFA Scholarship. It was very nice and we will not forget him for doing that. He was a true blue jacket supporter and I am sure all of his past students have fond memories of his agri-sci. classes. John was a good man and will surely be missed.

Where do I start? I guess it would be 67 years, 6 months, and 25 days ago yesterday, when I was born on August 17, 1944 on the 18th birthday of the sweetest uncle a girl could ever have. John A. Scott III was serving his beloved country on a navy ship in the Pacific Ocean during WW II. I have never known a more patriotic man.

Uncle John and I shared a unique bond. We celebrated so many birthdays together when I was little. He has always been my favorite uncle. I loved him so very much.

Just think, Uncle John has now met his birth father for the first time, as grandfather died before Uncle John was born! What a celebration is taking place in heaven with Aunt Anna, Grandfather Scott, Grandmother Scott, Momma, Daddy, and all his siblings and others who preceded him to that glorious place. "Uncle John, I long for heaven. Some day we will meet again."

Paul and I send all our love to my precious cousins and their families. Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Uncle John will be greatly missed.
